New route for 2021. This walk is mainly on paved sidewalks and some city streets in the oldest town in West Virginia. The only part of the route that is on natural surfaces is the area around Lock 38 and Ferry Hill Mansion on the 10K route.

Event information
AS OF AUG 23, 2021, THE CLARION HOTEL REMAINS CLOSED. Wheelchairs & strollers will have difficulty with curbs and uneven sidewalks on both trails. The walk goes through Elmwood Cemetery, across the Potomac River into Maryland to Lock 38 on the C&O Canal and Ferry Hill Mansion, through the campus of Shepherd University and downtown Shepherdstown. Many places associated with the Civil War are pointed out. Pets are not permitted inside the start point, Elmwood cemetery or Ferry Hill Plantation. You must clean up after them during the walk.
