Event comments
For restrooms, there is a gas station and a fast food restaurant 1/2 block west of the Courthouse at the intersection of 10th and Austin streets. After your walk, you may wish to take a side trip to Dilorio Farmers Market, 750 US-290 Business, or to the Bluebonnet Herb Farm and Cafe, 2105 13th St.

Event information
50 miles west of Houston, Hempstead is home to Prairie View A&M University. Once the top watermelon shipper in the country, Hempstead still holds annual watermelon festival in July. Economy is based around shipping and county government.
