Event comments

10K trail is suitable for jogging strollers. Rated at 2A. The second 10K of the 20K traverses steep terrain as it follows interior park trails and fire roads. It offers spectacular views of streams and Piedmont forest groves. Rated at 2B (2C if wet). Entrance fee has gone up to $15 per vehicle for those without an annual or national pass. There is also a new Prince William Forest Park Fee Pay App to make payments digitally. Search www.nps.gov for fee-free days.

Event information

Daily 9am-5pm. Call start point to make sure it is open (703-221-7181). National Park pass or entrance fee required. Park may close in inclement weather. Sturdy boots and tick repellent recommended, with adequate water. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas. 5/10/20K trail options. One trail (5 and 10 km) is along fire roads and a paved scenic loop with excellent views of trees and access to most of the trail heads. 20K has easy loop (2A) on roads and harder loop (2B, more like 2C if wet) on rough, sometimes steep terrain.

This event also has a physical start box. These are the driving directions:

Park Entrance Road, Triangle, VA (GPS: LAT: 38 33 35 N LONG: 77 20 51 W), (703) 221-7181. From the North on I-95: Exit 150B, bear right on Joplin Rd. (SR-619). Follow signs to Prince William Forest Park. Entrance on right, to Visitor Center (VC) for registration. From the South on I-95: Exit 150, bear left to Joplin Rd. (SR-619). Left on Joplin, pass under I-95 overpass to Park entrance on right, to VC for registration. Park entrance fee collected at entrance station or VC (or National Parks Pass).
