Event comments

This walk was modified in 2019 and has added new interesting features. The Capital will be visited on both 11km and 6km routes. Pets are not allowed in Capitol buildings. Wheelchairs/strollers welcomed, but care must be taken by all walkers along narrow sections of the Shoal Creek Trail.

Event information

Walk goes across the Colorado River (also called Lady Bird Lake) bridge with grand views of downtown Austin. You walk up Congress Ave. to the State Capital Complex (going through the Capitol Building when open). The 11k route continues into the University of Texas campus along the pedestrian only Speedway, then into West Campus and Judges Hill Neighborhood. The return route is along newly completed Shoal Creek Trail to our modern Central Library. Open daily.

Driving to the start box

507 S 1st, 78704. N/S I-35, Exit-233/Town Lake/Riverside, go W on Riverside 1.1 miles. Cross Congress to LEFT turn lane. Turn LEFT to Barton Springs Rd. Go LEFT to S 1st. First driveway on LEFT is entrance to hotel. Parking at hotel with permit from registration desk (FREE to volksmarchers). Ask for walk box at registration desk.
