Event comments

The Medina River Greenway is part of the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System, which is a growing network of developed multi-use and accessible trails. The Greenway consists of concrete and asphalt surfaces. This event uses the section of trail between the Medina River Natural Area and the River Crossing. However, two additions are planned to be completed in 2020 which will substantially increase the distance available on this event. Much of the Greenway trail is within the Medina River flood plain with few crossings. The trail may briefly have standing water or mud after rains. The trail will be temporarily closed when flooded. Drinking water and restrooms are available at most trailheads.

Event information

This section of the Medina River Greenway is well shaded in most areas. Volksbikers will see Cypress, Pecan and Oak trees typical of the Texas Hill Country / South Texas river systems. Wildlife and seasonal wildflowers may be present throughout the trail. Medina River is usually flowing, and can fill rapidly during heavy rains. The trail is mostly easy but does have two areas with switchbacks up to 8% grade. The trail will be temporarily closed when flooded.
