Event comments

Many of the OLSB events are in remote locations, or other places where maintaining a physical Start Box is impractical. This event is NOT in such a location, because Beltsville is convenient to many volkssporters in the Baltimore-D.C. area. However, the event is offered especially to introduce volkssporters to the On Line Start Box system. . Do not expect the staff at the Community Center to know about this event, but enjoy their restrooms, water coolers and ample parking.

Event information

Beltsville, Maryland is famous for the USDA Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC), a vast rural oasis amidst densely populated suburban Maryland. The 10K trail skirts the border of BARC (the BARC campus is usually off limits to visitors). Both the 10K and 5K follow paved paths along the bucolic Little Paint Branch. The 10K includes another small, neighborhood park featuring a pond at times teaming with wildlife, including turtles of all sizes, Great Blue Heron, geese, Mallard Ducks, and, if you're (un-)lucky to pick the right time to see one, a rat snake. All of these critters have been observed by the POC over the course of a year.
