Event information

The walk will go across and along the South Platte River, through parks, and past a variety of architecturally historic homes. The walk goes past the Museum for Children, Lincoln County Sheriff's Dept., North Platte Police Dept, Lincoln County Courthouse, Sioux Lookout Statue, and the downtown business area. It goes to the site of the North Platte Canteen along the Union Pacific railroad main line (where over 6 million WW2 G.I.'s were hosted, as they passed through North Platte, by the local citizenry). Complete this interesting walk by viewing historic old St. Mary's Hospital, Neville Center (original Fox Theatre), Pawnee Hotel, and Fire Station. The Lincoln Highway is on the route as is a western mural representative of the fact that when you are in North Platte, you are "Out West." Primarily on paved walkways, sidewalks, and streets. Driving to the start box

1421 S. Dewey St., North Platte, NE. From I-80 Exit 177 (Hwy 83) travel north approximately 3/4 mile on Hwy 83 which becomes Dewey St.. After passing over the South Platte River, turn right at the first traffic light which is Leota St.. On your left is Kwik Stop, you can turn left into the fueling area and drive around the east side of the store to get to the parking lot on the north side of the building.
