Description: The trails start on natural surfaces along the Illinois and Michigan Canal. After exiting the path, the walks will continue on sidewalks and streets in Ottawa taking you into neighborhoods, along the Illinis River, their downtown, and Washington Square Park. The trails will conclude on the river walk path leaving Ottawa and returning to the start in Fox River Park.

Start Point / Driving Directions: From I-80, exit 90 onto IL 23 (Columbus St.,) towards Ottawa. South on IL 23 to Superior Street (just after crossing I&M Canal). Left (east) on Superior Street to the park on your right.

Comments: Ottawa is the location of the first Lincoln-Douglas debate in 1858, and Washington Square Park has statues commemorating this event. The downtown has beautiful murals and numerous stores and restaurants. Ottawa has a unique statue of "Radium Dial Girl," explaining the effects to the radium dial painters in the 1920's. At the Historical and Scouting Museum there are exhibts featuring scouting items, information about the city's past as an Illinois & Michigan Canal boomtown and trail information, including a motor-driven geocaching trail. Ottawa is very close to three State parks: Starve Rock Matthiessen and Buffalo Rock.
