Event comments
Margaret Thornburg (1924-2007) began Volkssporting with her husband in Germany and was a very active walker until injuries resulting from an auto accident made it too difficult to walk. That didn't stop her; she took up cycling instead. Margaret joined the Sacramento Walking Sticks in 1986 and regularly attended the monthly membership meetings and helped out at events. She helped develop many of the club's early walks, including the tour now named in her memory. She even developed a swim. Among her accomplishments was the completion of walks in all 50 states. Margaret was a regular on the walks and bikes and could be spotted proudly wearing her vest adorned with the many pins and patches that she collected over the years Volkssporting. Event information
Restaurant open 4:30am-9:00pm daily; call for holiday hours. Ask at counter for walk box. Requires a short drive to the start point on the American River Parkway. This paved trail travels along the beautiful American River with lovely views in this natural setting. Birds and wildlife thrive in this riparian habitat.

4301 Arden Wy (Arden Plaza), Sacramento, CA 95864, (916) 482-1205. From Capital City Freeway (Bus 80) take Watt S to Arden Wy, left on Arden Wy. From Hwy 50, take Watt N to Arden Wy. Turn right on Arden Wy. In both cases proceed on Arden Wy to Eastern. Starbucks on NE corner.
