Event information

Don't miss the Old Jail House built in 1885 on the NW corner of School St. and St. Joseph St. The Carmelite Monks in 1881 began the first Catholic Church between Ft. Worth and El Paso. The monastery was completed in 1884 and St. Joseph's Church in 1885. Sisters of Divine Providence opened a short-lived school in 1887. The Sisters of Mercy reopened it in 1894. They operated a convent and academy until 1938. All that remains today are the dormitory, ruins of the other buildings and the cemetery. Open daily.
