Event comments
The airpark residential area near the airport is worth visiting afterwards to see houses with airplane hangars. Some challenges on the summer routes are only on the 5 km. WOC: Depots, Docks, Dog Related, Emergency, Entertainment, Gallery, Hotel, Italian, Java, Gardens Gargoyle/Gnomes, Historic Houses, Ink, Irish, Japanese, Justice,(Summer route, Nature), Noodles, Orchards, Sticks & Stones ESVA: Historic Train Station

Event information
M-F: 8am-8pm, Sat: 8am-7pm, Sun: 9am-6pm. Start point also for Monmouth YRE & about 15 miles west of downtown Salem. No restroom at start point but McDonald's/Roth's Grocery are nearby. Walk goes through this small river town's residential/downtown National Historic District & attractive Riverview Park by Willamette River. Inspiration Garden at Mt Fir Park managed by Polk Co Master Gardeners is on both routes. The Garden is highlighted in the summer routes (5/1-9/30) with the 10K also featuring the Willamette River Trail. Two other nearby YRE's: Dallas (10 miles NW) & McMinnville (28 miles north).

Driving to the start box
1357 Monmouth St, Independence, OR 97351, (503)838-2047. FROM I-5, exit 253 to Salem City Center. Follow signs to City Center; go on viaduct but use exit on right near top & then left lane to City Center. Right on Church; left on Marion to cross bridge in left lane to OR22 West & then OR51 South to Independence. Right on Monmouth St to Central Plaza Center at 13 St on left. FROM 99W turn east at Main St in Monmouth at traffic light to go to Independence. Right at 2nd traffic light at Gun Club Rd (by McDonald's) to Start Point. Ask for zippered binder at the registers.
