Event information
Karnes City replaced Helena as county seat when a local rancher, blaming city and mayor for death of his son, convinced local railroad to bypass the town. Helena became a ghost town. These events were portrayed in TV series Death Valley Days episode "Oldest Law".

Driving to the start box
1025 State Hwy 123, Karnes City, TX 78118. From East/West on I-10, take Exit 610 and follow SH 123 south about 51 miles to La Quinta Inn on left. From San Antonio, follow I-37 and US 181 south about 50 miles to State Hwy 123. Turn left on SH 123 for 1/2 mile to La Quinta on the right.
