Event information
M-Fri Dawn to dusk; Sat & Sun 8am-dusk. The trail wanders through the Lompoc Civic Center, by downtown murals, residential areas and along flower fields. It is flat and paved, but wheelchairs will have difficulty at some intersections. Public restrooms are available along the route at both Ryon and Beattle Parks. Because the extra 3 km option is up a steep dirt trail, it earns an AVA rating of 2C However, hikers who choose it are rewarded with a beautiful panorama of the valley at the turnaround. This event walks to the site of Original Mission and Remaining Ruins of Buildings of Mission la Purisima Concepcion de Maria Santisima (California Historic Landmark #925). For those who prefer a simple "out and back," a route from the parking lot at Amtrak's Surf Beach stop to the south gate of Vandenberg AFB is available. The route offers a beautiful view of the estuary where the Santa Ynez River meets the ocean.

Driving to the start box
105 S H, Lompoc, CA 93436. From S, take US-101 to CA-1 (after tunnel at Gaviota). Turn left (W) to Lompoc. The highway will dead end at a "T" intersection with CA-246 just outside of Lompoc. Turn left. The combined CA-1/CA-246 turns to Ocean. Park in city parking lot at intersection of Ocean and I St. Walk one block back to H, turn right to Start/Finish Point. From N, take US-01 to Betteravia exit in Santa Maria. Turn right (W) to Broadway (5th light). Go left (S) on Broadway as it merges with CA-1. Take CA-1 to right to Lompoc, turn left at light at Vandenberg AFB Main Gate. Turn right on Ocean and park in city lot at I St and Ocean. Walk one block back to H, turn right to Start/Finish Point.
