Event comments

Fort Eustis began operations in 1918 as a training camp and became a permanent installation in 1923. Fort Eustis was home to the US Army Transportation Corps until July 2009 when most of the school moved to Fort Lee. On October 1, 2010 Fort Eustis and nearby Langley Air Force Base combined base operations and is currently called Joint Base Langley-Eustis. It is currently home to the HQ, TRADOC (Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command), Marine Qualification and Maritime and Intermodal Training Department of the US Army Transportation School. It is a 9000 acre training facility and center providing training in rail, marine, and amphibian operations. Closed all Sundays and Mondays and Federal Holidays. For those walking the Virginia Cities program Newport News is an independent city.
