Event information
Start Point open 9am-7pm daily. Please allow staff to wait on customers first. No restrooms at starting point, but are available on walking route. For overnight accommodations, our club recommends our gracious Start Point host, Cozy Hollow Lodge; reservations encouraged, can be made at 909-866-9694. Big Bear Lake is a four-seasons mountain community situated above 6700 ft elevation. Much of the lake's north shore is a sparsely developed area managed by the National Forest Service. There is a well-maintained paved bike and pedestrian trail ("Alpine Pedal Path") running from the east end of the lake to the locally renowned Solar Observatory. Adjacent to this trail is the Standfield Marsh wildlife preserve, with boardwalks over the water. 11K route includes the full length of the North Shore trail, and the Stanfield Marsh; the 5K route is fully wheelchair- and stroller-accessible, and features a portion of the North Shore trail. There is a wide variation in weather during the year-- check the local weather before traveling to Big Bear, and dress appropriately. From Nov 1-Mar 31 most North Shore public facilities are closed for Bald Eagle nesting season, but lakeside trail can still be walked.
