Description: Walk in the steps of the "Clinton 12", the first African-American students to integrate a state-supported school in Southeast in 1956. Life-sized statues of them are outside the Green McAdoo Cultural Center where the story is told of how a community came together for a better future for all. Center open Tue-Sat 10am-4pm, free. Treasures abound in antique stores on Market St. Bask in the ambiance of the still-thriving Hoskins DrugStore and soda fountain where you start and finish this walk. Hoskins Drug Store is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m M-F and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Closed all major holidays.

Start Point / Driving Directions: 111 N. Main St., Clinton, TN. From Knoxville, head northwest onto I-275 N via I-40 E ramp to Asheville. Take Exit #3 US-25W/I-640 to Clinton/Asheville and bear left toward Clinton. Continue on US-25W N to 111 N. Main Street

Comments: Breakfast, soda fountain indulgences and sandwiches available at Hoskins Mon-Sat. Hot plate lunches M-F. If you want to go in the Green McAdoo Center be advised to call (865)463-6500 to confirm opening. Antiques buffs should consider scheduling your walk for the 1st Sat in May or 2nd Sat in Oct to coincide with Clinton's exciting Antiques Festival.
