Event information

Restaurant is open daily 5am-11pm, call for holiday hours. Ask for Walk Box at the counter. Travel the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail thru the American River Parkway along the river's edge. This trail is heavily traveled by cyclists; walkers are warned to walk on the left side of the path for safety, keeping dogs closely reined in. The trail provides great bird and wildlife habitat with lots of shade, picnic areas and vista points. The 11K route continues to the Nimbus Fish Hatchery where, in the autumn, you can view the salmon climbing the fish ladders as they arrive to spawn their eggs. Walkers may also enjoy hand feeding the fingerlings in the rearing ponds and visiting the museum. Visitor Center, (916) 358-2884, open M-F 8am-3pm, Sat-Sut 9am-3pm, closed Christmas Day. The fish rearing ponds are open daily 7:30am-3pm. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/fish/hatcheries/nimbus/ Restrooms are available at the start, along the trail near the Fair Oaks Bridge, and at Fish Hatchery Visitor Center.
