Distance - Trail Ratings: 5-km or 10-km - 2A
Description: (Updated: Oct 25, for Construction Info. See "Comments" below.)The 5-km route is rated 1A and has little elevation change. The 10-km route is rated 2A, has greater elevation changes with a few small hills and a 2-block segment on a crushed bluestone path in the Isaac Crossman City Park. The primary surface of each route is on brick or concrete sidewalks and asphalt (W&OD Trail). The 5-km route uses the W&OD Trail, W. Broad Street, and one City Park. The 10-km uses the W&OD Trail, East and West Broad Street, 2 City Parks (different from the 5-km route), and some beautiful neighborhoods. No shade is available on the W&OD Trail, but there could be shade in the neighborhoods (depending on when the leaves fall), and the City Parks should be shaded. Falls Church is a high-traffic area, observe all posted speed limits and parking regulations. Please see the "Comments" for parking advice. There will be numerous food-drink-restroom chances along Broad Street. Check out Broad Street on Google to see your options ahead of time. There is a Hilton Garden Inn on W. Broad Street, which is on the 5-km and 10-km routes. Hotel Staff stated that parking is free for hotel guests. There is also a Marriott TownePlace Suites near the 10-km route, but is slightly less convenient than staying at the Hilton. Comments: Community Center Hours of Operation and Parking Lot Information:

Saturdays: 8:30 am. - 11:00 pm. BUT, the lot is reserved until 2 pm for the Farmers Market Vendors. Parking is available in nearby lots but extra walking is required. The Farmers Market attracts a crowd, and is open from 8 am-noon. Streets closest to the Center are usually crowded until the market closes at noon, but try Little Falls Street, Great Falls Street, Park Ave., and W. Columbia Street before giving up.

Sundays: 2:00 pm. - 6:00 pm. You can arrive earlier and time your walk to finish at the opening of the Center. There are few parking restrictions on Sundays, but a lot of churches in that area. The Police Station is completely closed on weekends, the nearest restroom is a couple blocks away on Broad Street (Harris Teeter). It is best to be toileted upon arrival at the Community Center if you plan to start before the Center is open.

Monday-Thursday: 8:00 am. - 10:00 pm. Street parking restrictions are in effect until 5 pm, but some streets around the Center allow up to 4 hours parking. Street parking restrictions are not normally in effect on Observed Federal Holidays. Private lot restrictions are always in effect, depending on sign information.

Friday: 8:00 am. - 11:00 pm. Street parking restrictions are in effect until 5 pm, but some streets allow up to 4 hours parking. Street parking restrictions are not normally in effect on Observed Federal Holidays. Private lot restrictions are always in effect, depending on sign information.

For Federal Holidays, presume the Community Center is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days. Call the Community Center to confirm they are open on the other Federal Holidays, and New Year's Eve.

The route can be adapted for Metro access. The 10-km route is better-suited for adaptation, and there may be a reduction in the number of Special Programs that the Metro routes achieve. The "East Falls Church" Metro Station on the Orange/Silver lines is your exit point, 1 mile away from the Community Center. Contact POC for assistance with Metro adaptation. Metro parking is free on weekends but parking cannot be reserved and the "East Falls Church" parking lot is not very large. I am happy to discuss your trip planning. Contact me evenings after 6:30 at 703-549-8388; by mobile/text at 703-298-9277.

Construction Info, updated Oct 25. Construction begins Mon., Oct 16, on Van Buren St., which is on the 10-km route. The City confirmed the path exiting the Crossman City Park onto Van Buren Street, will be accessible for pedestrians, so be alert and extra careful on that final section of the 10-km route. The other construction has finished, but still be extra patient, and cautious driving and walking in Falls Church.
