Description: Walk takes place in a small community just outside of Brenham named Independence. Founded in 1835 by J. G. W. Pierson, Robert Stevenson, Colbert Baker and Amasa F. Burchard as a part of the Austin Colony. You will visit historical sites among them the ruins of the original Baylor University, grave of Nancy Lea Houston (Sam Houston's wife), historic homes, markers and the oldest Baptist church in continuous operation in Texas. . Explore the Texas Baptist Historical Center, and Rose Emporium

From Houston US 290 west; at the light before Brenham, turn right onto FM 577N (Horton St). Turn right on TX HWY 105E. Turn left on FM 50 to Independence. The Historical Center-Museum is at the corner of FM 50 and FM 390. Parking is available in a gravel lot directly across the street
