Event comments
WALK IS CLOSED: During the 1919 Hurricane which ravaged Corpus Christi , the island residents made their way to the highest point on the island, which is just off the beach near the current location of the UT Marine Science Institute, where they huddled and prayed for the hurricane to abate. Their prayers were answered and they survived.

Event information
The walk goes along the Gulf of Mexico and is almost entirely on the beach. It also goes through the University of Texas Marine Science Institute's Wetlands Education Center, where there is a lot of information about Texas' Wetlands, conservation, and the wildlife that call the wetlands home.

Driving to the start box
CLOSED: 200 E. Cotter AVE, Port Aransas, TX 78373. Telphone: 361/749-5555. Cross the FREE ferry to Port Aransas, then follow TX-361 (Piper BLVD) for 0.1 miles to W. Cotter AVE. Stay on W. Cotter AVE for 0.5 miles. The Tarpon Inn is on the RIGHT. The Walk Box is located in Lobby. Open daily at 7:30am.
