Non-military visitors will first stop at the Visitor Control Center just outside Sherman Gate. State-issued driver's licenses and identification cards from IL, NM, MO, WA and MN can no longer be used to obtain a visitor's pass because those cards don't comply with federal standards. Visitors who are accompanied in the vehicle by a Defense Department card holder can continue to access the installations using any state's driver's license. Accepted forms of identification for granting a base visitor's pass include a U.S. passport, any official ID card from any of the compliant states, Native American tribal documents and any Defense Department or federal ID card. VA identification cards, however, are not accepted. After leaving the Visitor Control Center, turn right on Metropolitan to 7th St. Right on 7th to Grant Gate, the Main Gate onto Fort Leavenworth. Enter Fort Leavenworth through the Grant Ave Gate (Main Gate) and go straight on Grant Ave.

Closed ALL Federal holidays. Mon-Fri, 6am-9pm; Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun, 1pm to 5pm. Fort trail is rated 2A and follows historic sites on the Army post, including the National Cemetery, Oregon Trail site, the US Command and General Staff College, and the Frontier Army Museum. To access Fort Leavenworth, you will need to pass through the security gate. You will need a state issued driver's license photo ID or a photo ID issued by the US government (military ID card or passport) and vehicle registration. All vehicles are subject to search at the discretion of the Military Police.

Driving to the start box

From Kansas City, take I-70 West to Leavenworth/Bonner Springs Exit, Hwy 73 (K-7). North on Hwy 73 to Delaware St. Right on Delaware for three blocks to start point. From North and East: from Platte City, MO, follow Hwy 92 to Leavenworth.Take the first left (4th St). Continue South until you reach Delaware. Left for three blocks to start point. You will sign up at the Riverfront Community Center for the walk and drive a short distance to the walk start point (details in folder).
