Event information

This Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hike is through the canyon and riverbeds along the year-round Whitewater River. The route is mainly on the PCT with lots of sand, gravel, and rocks. A walking stick or poles and hiking boots are recommended due to unstable footing. There are restrooms and water at and near the Ranger Station but none on the trail. Pets are welcome on leash with clean-up. The canyon is located between Banning and Palm Springs, so it can be warm any time of year. Sunscreen and water are a must!

Driving to the start box

REGISTRATION: Please use the online start box provided by the California Volkssport Association website (www.cva4u.org) Follow the left side link, 'Online Start Box', and the instructions provided to sign a waiver and register for this event. Payments for event credit and directions use Paypal. The directions and insert cards are PDFs that you can download and print as needed. The POC does not provide event directions or accept alternate payment methods. The entire online process should take less than 10 minutes for a first time user. DRIVE TO START: From Eastbound I-10 freeway, take Whitewater exit (just past Highway 111 exit). Left at stop sign and Left again at Whitewater Canyon Rd. From Westbound I-10 freeway, take Whitewater exit. Turn Right and then Left on Whitewater Canyon Rd. Once on Whitewater Canyon Rd., drive 5 miles to the end of the road. There is plenty of free parking at the Preserve.
