Event comments
Cross the Potomac River twice, circle Kennedy Center, visit Arlington Memorial Cemetery and the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial), and explore Theodore Roosevelt Island. You can do all of these on the 12-KM option for this walk, or you can do all but the TR Island loop on the 10-KM trail. The 10-KM is rated 2A because of moderate hills. The 12-KM option includes a loop around TR Island and is rated 2A because of moderate hills and some natural-surface paths. Wheelchairs will have some difficulty on longer distances; larger-wheeled strollers should be usable on all segments.

Driving to the start box
Reception Desk, The Consul, W Lobby, 2400 Virginia Ave NW. I-495 (Capital Beltway) in VA, Exit 44 to George Washington Memorial Pkwy (1st exit in VA from MD). Exit from Pkwy at Memorial Bridge/Arlington Cemetery exit (approx 8.5 miles). Right at stop sign. Right lane in traffic circle to cross Memorial Bridge. On Bridge, get in right lane. Immediately after crossing Bridge, exit Rock Creek Pkwy/Kennedy Center exi, follow signs. Road will pass under Kennedy Center by river, pass by Watergate complex on right. Next light (yield sign to right of light) make right to Virginia. After 3 lights (0.3 miles) make right on 24th to parking garage at Columbia Plaza. Limited parking on street during day (metered) and weekend (free). Via Metro [recommended]: Exit Foggy Bottom-GWU (Orange/Blue Lines) Station to 23rd. Right, remain on 23rd, walk 4 blocks to Virginia. Cross Virginia, turn right, walk 1/2 block, left to drive at Columbia Plaza Apartments across from parking.
