The route has a 1B rating because of some of the cobblestone streets. You start at the Savannah History Museum and go into one of the most walker friendly cities in the USA, filled with colonial and American Civil War history. Savannah takes its historical heritage quite seriously, and you will pass marvelously restored homes dating back to the 1700's. Stroll through the beautiful park squares with their statuary. Relish the Spanish moss draped live oak trees. Relive the thrills of John Berendt's book and the movie, "Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil." Visit the unique shops and restaurants along River St. and in the Old City Market.The city provides a diverse collection of museums.

Driving to the start box

303 Martin Luther King, Jr Blvd. I-95 Exit 99 on I-16. Drive E to the end of I-16 (becomes Montgomery) approx 8.8 miles. Go to Liberty (first traffic light). Turn left on Liberty and drive one block to Martin Luther King Jr. Turn right onto MLK Jr and make an immediate left into the Visitor Information Center parking lot. Use the Side Entrance to the Museum and go to the information counter in the lobby as you enter. Ask for the Walkbox.
