Event comments

The Hammond loop passes a library, a firehouse and the Hammond Boat basin ("Free Willy"-1993) to your checkpoint near the gazebo. Returning to Carruthers Park you will pass another viewpoint and a picturesque building which used to be the Point Adams Coast Guard Station. The Coast Guard Station was built in 1938 on the site of the Point Adams Life Saving Station (1887). A matted pencil sketch of these 2 buildings commemorating our Marine Heritage is available free at the registration point. The Warrenton loop passes the water treatment plant, the DK Warren Estate, and the Warrenton Boat Basin on the Skipanon River, and a city park. Can you spot the eagle's nest at the top of a tree along the trail about halfway between the logging operation and the blue church? You will walk along Main Street to pass the city hall, fire and police station. The Daniel Knight Warren House, a building of frame construction completed in 1885 at the cost of $8,000, is among the outstanding houses of the late Victorian period in Clatsop County, Oregon. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
