Event comments

Water and restrooms at Valley River Inn, three points along the river, and at the senior center (when open). Carry water; you'll definitely need it on the 10 km. route. On the paved river path, walk to the right, allowing bikers to pass easily on your left. Oregon challenge: Arches, Antique Shops, Bicycle Shops,Entertainment, Flowers, Gardens, Historic Homes, Landmarks, Mountains, Museums, Monuments, Water Towers, Water Treatment Plant, Watering Holes, Waterways

Event information

Walk along and over the Willamette River to visit the 9 acre Owen Rose Garden. Then to the historic Shelton-McMurphy House and up a long series of steps and a roadway to reach the summit of Skinner Butte; enjoy an expansive view of Eugene, parts of Springfield, and the Cascade and Coast Range foothills. Descend Skinner Butte on a gravel path to reach Campbell Senior Center and the Willamette River. Walk on a wide paved path along the river to RiverPlay, an innovative children's playground, and to a replica of Eugene Skinner's cabin, the first structure in the area. Return along the river (the Willamette Greenway) and over it to reach the Valley River Inn. The 5 km. route skips Skinner Butte, is rated 1A, and is easy for strollers and wheelchairs.

Driving to the start box

1000 Valley River Way, Eugene: 541-687-0123. From I-5, Exit 194B (West I-105, West 126, Eugene); take Exit 1 (the second exit) (Delta Hwy, Santa Clara, Junction City); stay in right lane and take the first exit to Valley River Center; keep going right, then get into the left lane as you go over the overpass; at bottom of overpass, turn left onto Valley River Way to its end at Valley River Inn (on left); ask for Volkswalk box.
