The trail may not be suitable for strollers and the handicapped without assistance after a rain. There is camping available year round at the park. Campers and outdoor enthusiasts find Newport News Park a perfect retreat for hiking or bicycling on the Parks many trails; picnicking in shelters with outdoor grills; fishing, boating and canoeing on the Parks scenic lakes and inlets; and enjoying sports such as archery and golf. Event information

Campground office is open 7 am to 7 pm daily. The walk trail will be primarily along park nature trails and park roads. One of the largest municipal parks in the country, this magnificent 8,000 acre-oasis is home to an incredible variety of native wildlife - deer, foxes, otter, raccoon and beaver, to name a few - all found in a natural setting of lush woodlands, flowering meadows and shimmering lakes. Its unique natural beauty makes Newport News Park a favorite destination for campers who love the great outdoors - and the convenience of being just moments away from the multitude of activities and attractions the surrounding area provides.

how to get to the event

Driving to the start box

13564 Jefferson Avenue. Take I-64 to Exit 250B in Newport News. Turn left at traffic light onto VA Route 143W (Jefferson Ave). Follow Route 143W approximately 1.2 miles to the Newport News Park Campground at Campsite Dr. Turn right into the campground. At the 25 mph traffic sign, turn right into the parking lot. The start is in the campground office, which is located right beside the parking lot.
