Shepherdstown is the oldest town in West Virginia and was where the Confederates crossed the Potomac River during three campaigns during the Civil War. Lee's entire Army crossed here after Antietam.

If it is cold or raining but you still want to walk the mall is the place to do it. Check out the shops as you walk and you can pick your distance easily enough, 5k or 10K.

This walk is through the battlefield of Antietam. Many historical sights and it is a lovely walk.

The Battle of Antietam was The Battle of Sharpsburg. Most of the houses on Main Street were built prior to the civil war and were used for various uses during the civil war.

The historic district is on the National Register of Historic Places.
